Controls Engineer
InterClean is the leader in modern wash system product design with over 1000+ systems installed in over 30 years of business. We proudly build each wash system for specific application needs and our substantial R&D allows us to offer the best technology possible.
Our technical sales team works closely with our in-house mechanical, electrical and controls engineers to provide a truly consultative design approach. We complete the design, fabrication, build, and testing of our wash systems and then dispatch technicians to complete installation and start-up.
The controls engineer is tasked with system-level and detail-level engineering and design of controls hardware and software for automated wash equipment. The current open position will have an initial focus on hardware design with opportunity for growth into software design.

Schedule: Monday – Friday
Salary Range: $80,000 – $100,000 / year
Experience level: 2 years+
Expected Travel: 5%-25%

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Hardware
- Review specifications, drawings, and sales proposals to determine project requirements.
- Select appropriate control panel architecture based on the equipment to be controlled and project-specific requirements.
- Complete single-line diagrams to communicate system-level panel architecture, field device layout, utility requirements and installation methods.
- Draft written sequence of operations to communicate system-level operating method.
- Design industrial control panels in compliance with UL508A including specific tasks such as,
- Heat, load, and other calculations to appropriately select hardware,
- Coordinate with mechanical and software functions to properly design I/O,
- Create, maintain, and release detailed bills of material,
- Complete detail drawings sufficient to build and wire control panels.
- Complete factory acceptance testing (FAT) to validate control panel quality and functionality prior to shipment.
- Provide technical and troubleshooting support for the field installation and customer service departments, including direct communication with customers.
- Software
- Review specifications, drawings, and sales proposals to determine project requirements.
- Coordinate with mechanical and controls hardware functions to ensure the system and individual components are properly designed for software needs.
- Draft written sequence of operations to communicate system-level operating method.
- Develop PLC software, occasionally from scratch.
- Develop HMI software, occasionally from scratch.
- Develop SCADA and other supervisory software, often from scratch to satisfy project-specific requirements.
- Provide technical and troubleshooting support for the field installation and customer service departments, including direct communication with customers.
- When needed, travel to site for commissioning of equipment and/or troubleshooting of existing equipment.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering or equivalent field.
- Minimum 2 years of relevant experience.
- Proficiency using Autotcad (preferably Autocad Electrical) for panel design.
- Proficiency using Microsoft Excel to manage bills of material and other information.
- Proficiency using Microsoft Word, Powerpoint, Outlook, and other tools to deliver clear and concise written communication.
PREFERRED BUT NOT REQUIRED
- Proficiency using Allen Bradley Studio 5000 for software design, primarily Logix Designer for PLC code.
- Proficiency developing HMI screens (Weintek is the standard HMI for InterClean systems).
- Ability and willingness to learn new software languages and development environments.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Prolonged time spent sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Essential physical requirements: typing.
- Light physical effort/lifting, up to 20 pounds.
